Identified the hot black wire and the hot red when light switch is turned on. You need a special outlet to do what you are wanting to do.

2 black 2 red 2 white wires outlet. Two cables entering an outlet box indicate that the outlet is not the last fixture on a circuit. They should both be of the same wire gauge. One of the hot wires attaches to a brass terminal on one side of the outlet and the other attaches to a brass terminal on the other side. The other sends it on to other loads on the circuit. When measured with respect to the white neutral wire the red wire carries the same 120 volt current that the black one carries making the voltage across these two hot wires 240 volts. Black wires attached to bottom of outlet gold screw side red wires attached to top of outlet middle tab removed and white wires were fastened to silver side of outlet.
One of the black wires receives power from the service panel. 12 awg for 20 amp circuits and 14 awg for 10 and 15 amp circuits. Youll have two cables in the switch box a live one with a black and white wire and the one going to the outlet which has a red black and white wire. Essentially you connect the white and bare wires directly to the light and switch the black wire hot through a switch. I tested the line in and i have power at the wires the outlet tests and shows connected with a light. In the outlet box you will have a black white and bare ground wire.

The 2 white are obviously your neutrals your blacks are 120vin from breaker and out to other outlets. You can now screw the outlet to the box and proceed to the switch box. Replaced outlet with two white two red two black and one ground wire.
I have just installed two gfci outlets i followed the line in black and white and then the line out black and white connections to the first outlet.
