As for the coils they are there to serve as strain reliefs for the hard brake lines so that they dont crack due to the relative motion between the chassis and the body. These explanations would make sense if all the lines from the master cylinder were coiled but theyre not.

Act as though your trying to stretch the brake line around the pipe and wrap it as tight as you can. On one car the distance from the master cylinder to the anti lock brake system pump will be slightly different from that on another.
