Its possible to link two red wires together or a red wire to a black wire. This is 14 gauge wire black and red.

Red and black wires twisted together. One is for the fan and the other is for the light. As you can see your answer is no the black wire should not be connected to the red wires. If not color all phase 2 wires with. Ceiling fans can use two hot wires. The red wire is probably the load its also possible the red is the line and you have two loads controlled by the switch. Like black wires they can also be used in some types of switch legs. Coming up out of the well casing are redblackgreen wires tied together and a single white wire.
They should both be of the same wire gauge.
