V6 coolant refilling procedure. I see temps for the head as high as 223 fahrenheit in my mustang although it usually stays between 185 and 209 fahrenheit most of the time.

Normal cylinder head temperature mustang. The general rule for cylinder head temp is that it is around 10 15 degrees hotter than coolant temp which puts your coolant around 195 200 which is just right. 223 degrees is a little elevated but that can happen when you have higher ambient temps. Not from the coolant temperature sensor. Just had no idea what the cht should be. Was just wondering why there were no color indicators like on the oil temp guage. That sounds completely normal.
Cylinder head temperature. The coolant temp was well within normal operating limits and the cht did drop back around 198 or so when i left. Whats the norm for cylinder head temp. Coolant exits the engine at the coolant neck on top and flows back to both the radiator and a return to the engine at the y pipe. Coolant enters the engine at the left hand driver cylinder head at the thermostat and reaches exhaust valves on both heads first before flowing into the rest of the engine. Also does the heat affect the turbo more as in does it hinder it.
Soooooooo the temperature as reported by the pcm is from the cylinder head temperature sensor. Degc display of engine temperature in degrees c input from cylinder head temperature sensor. 210 220 fahrenheit so around 20 30 degrees above engine temperature and also showing higher figures earlier in the warm up process than engine temperature gauge engine coolant temperature gauge located under tachometer usually vertical as far as i remember. 49 c c mark 60 c normal band start. I also found this on the web regarding the cht. Double check theres no air inside the coolant jacket.
Dont worry i once saw 225 while idling and everything was fine. If not then straight up temperature is ok.
