There are rocker switches toggle switches slide switches button switches rotary switches pull switches and more. A double pole double throw switch is used for this purpose but you have to wire it up correctly.

Replacing A Toggle Light Switch With A Rocker Switch
How does rocker switch work. When the ignition switch is open a small amount of current is delivered to the starter solenoid which then opens the circuit that operates the starter motor.
