I need to replace the tensioner pulley. The pulley bolt on the tensioner is left hand thread turn clockwise to loosen but the bolt that retains the tensioner to the alternator bracket is standard right hand thread turn counter clockwise to loosen.

Tensioner pulley bolt reverse thread. The belt tensioner pulley bolt tightens when you release tension on the belt. My older pre runner had 27 had a separate spot on the tensioner you used. It has no gm part number and cannot be replaced. I have searched but havent come up with an exact part number. Tighten bolt to 61 nm 45 ft. You must buy the whole belt tensioner assembly.
Just need to replace the pulley. Is the reason that the the pulley is reverse thread because you have to use the pulley bolt to release tension on the belt. I have a 92 c1500 with a 43l. Does anybody here know what the actual part number is or where i can get another. Install pulley and pulley bolt to tensioner. It makes sense that it is reverse threaded because it requires you to push forward to release tension.
It is a 14mm bolt but beyond that have no clue. And doing this to a standard thread bolt cause it to potentially loosen the bolt. If you are trying to remove the tensioner from the bracket it just takes a little muscle. I just replaced the tensioner pulleyfor 2nd time and have just about stripped the bolt. Which requires you to turn the bolt counter clockwise. Im wanting to know if the bolt holding it to the tensioner is reverse threaded.
To prevent the bolt from loosening it is a reverse thread. Align this slot to the head of the bolt on the front cover. But you dont know if its the idler pulley that has bad bearing so you can just replacing the whole auto tensioner assembly which is easier and you should be able to get that quicker from any local auto shop. An indexing slot is located on back of tensioner. However the tensioner mounting bolt is rh thread gm 10273568. The tensioner itself is fine.
