Bilge pump won t turn on. Took my boat out yesterday everything running fine but when i turned off my boat my bilge pump was still running even when the switch was in the off position. Yes the light on the switch is a nice indicator that tells you when your bilge comes on in auto mode. I checked the float switch and it appears to work ok. Went out and bought a new one wired it up and noticed that one of the wires to the switch had came lose. Connected that it worked as far as manually turning it on goes not sure about automatic the replacement. This thread is archived.
If you turn it counter clockwise i believe it should activate the bilge pump. When it floats high enough an electrical connection is made turning the pump on. The indicator light on the switch panel remains lit whether or not the 12vdc power is on and the pump runs. You may have to disconnect the battery to stop the pump. Most pumps have an automatic float switch that detects when water is in the bilge and automatically turns on the pump.
